How to Secure Admissions to Medical PG in Germany After Russia MBBS ?

Getting your German language level from your native country completed

It is essential to learn the German language before applying for a Medical PG in Germany. Doctors must be able to communicate with patients.

Doctors who have completed B2 level can begin to study Medical German Language. This is essential to be able to practice as a doctor in Germany.

Passing the “Kenntnisprufung” exam

What is Fachsprachenprufung ?

Fachsprachenprufung (or the exam) is required for every international doctor who wishes to practice medicine in Germany. Fachsprachenprufung tests doctor’s German Terminology knowledge.

Who can take this exam?

This exam is open to doctors who have completed the B2 level in German and hold a valid medical degree. After all, formalities are completed, the exam is administered by the state where the doctor wishes to practice.

Exam Pattern of Fachsprachenprufung

The exam includes viva and practical modules. There are three steps to this exam. The exam will last 60 minutes. The exam will only be given in German.

The exam consists of following steps:

  • Doctor-Patient conversation (20 min)
  • The doctor must communicate with the patient during this exam. They need to be able to understand the patient and attempt to diagnose them fully.
  • Documentation (20 minutes)
  • The doctor will need to record history and other details and create a document.
  • Communication Doctor-to-Doctor (Viva), (20 minutes)
  • The doctor must provide all information and documents for the examiner.

Notice: The exam module states that while Medical knowledge is not required for this exam, it will be tested. However, non-technical Medical knowledge will be part of the exam. Be prepared accordingly.

Where can I take this exam?

This is part of the process to obtain Approbation (Permanent License). After a doctor has decided to practice in a particular German state, they must submit all necessary documents to Landesarztekammer. After confirming all documents, authorities will give the exam date for FSP after verification.

What is Defizitbescheid?

The German Embassy will ask for Defizitbescheid certificates from doctors who plan to go to Germany to study Medical Specialization. All documents required to Landesarztekammer are required when foreign doctors apply to a permanent license.

Landesarztekammer will review the foreign doctor’s medical curriculum and compare it to German medical studies. If it is different, then foreign doctors will need to take the Kenntnisprufung exam. If it is not, then the doctor will be granted an Approbation license.

Defizitbescheid is a document or certificate that explains the difference in the education curriculum. Defizitbescheid must be submitted with the application for SS17a National Visa to Germany.

How do I get Defizitbescheid?

Defizitbescheid is a requirement for foreign doctors who want to enter Germany to become doctors.

Before applying for the Defizitbescheid certificate, the doctor must select the German state in which they wish to take Fachsprachenprufung after reaching Germany. After the doctor has made the decision, the Defizitbescheid certificate will be issued.

All documents must be translated into German by Landesarztekammer and authenticated by the German Embassy or Notar.

To accept a Defizitbescheid application, most of the Landesarztekammer states will require a minimum level in German. You can choose to have it either B1 or B2. In this instance, the doctor must learn the minimum level of German before they can begin Defizitbescheid.

This will make it difficult for doctors to study German in Germany. Defizitbescheid certificates are required to obtain a visa. Defizitbescheid certificate may take between 3 and 6 months from the submission of your application. Once your application has been submitted, you will receive Eingangsbestatigung. What is Berufserlaubnis?

The temporary license to be a doctor in Germany is called Berufserlaubnis. The doctor can work in Germany as an assistant doctor for up to two years after passing the Medical German Language exam.

Berufserlaubnis may be extended for up to 2 years, and doctors must pass the Kenntnisprufung exam between these two years to receive a permanent license called Approbation.

Berufserlaubnis will pay doctors salaries and other benefits. However, this period will not count towards specialization studies.
