1. SERB National Post Doctoral Fellowship

The SERB National Post Doctoral Fellowship (NPDF) is meant for young researchers in frontier fields of science and engineering. The applicant must hold a Ph.D./M.D./M.S. Degree from an accredited university. Fellows will be mentored and will have the golden chance to become independent researchers.

SERB Fellowship Eligibility: The applicant must hold a Ph.D./M.D./M.S. Degree from an accredited University. Candidates who have completed their PhD/M.D/M.S and are waiting for the award of the degree are also eligible. The fellowship amount for the selected candidates will be lower during the course.

Fellowship Amount: INR 55,000/Month.+ HRA. (Rs. Candidates awaiting the results after submitting the thesis will be given INR 35,000/p.m. + HRA.

2. ICSSR Post-Doctoral Fellowship

The ICSSR Post Doctoral Fellowship’s main purpose is to support and retain young Indian social scientists who have finished their PhD and want to pursue a career as teachers and researchers. They must have the potential to conduct full-time research on critical social science issues and problems.

Fellowship Eligibility: A PhD in any social science discipline is required at the time of applying.

Discipline: Public Administration. Diaspora Studies, National Security and Strategic Studies, Education, Social Psychology, Legal Studies, Social Geography, Environmental Studies etc..

Fellowship amount: INR.31,000 per month and the contingency grant at Rs.25,000/- per year.

3. Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

The fellowship is awarded to highly qualified faculty members and researchers in the listed areas to enhance their research capabilities.

Fellowship Eligibility: The applicant must hold a PhD degree from within the last four years.

Fellowship Amount: These fellowships follow the American Government guidelines and offer J-1 visa support, a monthly and round-trip economy-class air travel. There is also a small settling-in allowance and a professional allowance. If funds are available, one eligible dependent may receive a dependent allowance or international travel. However, the dependent must be present in the U.S. at least 80 per cent of the grant period.

4. Fellowships UGC D. S. Kothari

The University Grants Commission established the Dr D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (DSKPDF) following the recommendation of Professor M. M. Sharma, Chair of the Empowered Committee. A PhD is awarded to candidates below 35 years old (up to 3, 5, and 10 years age relaxation for OBC/ST/Women, physically handicapped, and SC/ST/Women, respectively). Candidates who hold a doctorate in science are eligible to apply for this scholarship.


5. IGIDR Post Doctoral Fellowship

As part of IGIDR’s outreach activities, the Post-Doctoral Fellowship Programme (PDF) has been established. IGIDR awards this fellowship to scholars who are doing high-quality research in their domain. The program supports high-quality research by scholars with doctoral and outstanding academic records. Every year IGIDR offers up to three fellowships.

Fellowship Eligibility: 

Residents of India under 40 years and have attained a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in their Masters’s degree or an equivalent. They should also have a PhD in Economics or Energy and Environment Policy. IGIDR fellowship is awarded for one year. The fellowship can be extended up to one additional year.

Fellowship Amount: INR 70,000/Month

6. Raman Post Doctoral Fellowship, IISc

The Government of India has made the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) an Institution of Eminence and created the Raman Post-Doc Program. For the 50 Raman Post-doctorate position, applications are invited from highly motivated individuals who have a track record of quality research. Foreign nationals, including those below 32 years of old and holding a PhD with First Class or an equivalent, are also eligible.

Department:

Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Electrical, Electronics and Computer Sciences (EECS), Interdisciplinary Research and Other Interdisciplinary Centers, Mechanical Sciences, Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Fellowship Amount: The selected candidates will be provided with a monthly package of INR. 1 Lakh. They will also receive an additional amount of INR. 8 Lakhs per annum

7. ICHR Post Doctoral Fellowship

ICHR Post Doctoral Fellowships can be awarded to highly competent scholars in research and have been awarded a PhD or equivalent work in History or allied subjects. They also desire to pursue approved research topics at institutions of excellence under the supervision of a research guide. Fellowship candidates must be affiliated with an eminent research institute or University.

Fellowship Amount: INR 30 800/month and an additional INR 22000/- as a contingency grant. ICHR fellowship is awarded for a period of two years and can be extended for one additional year without any fellowship amount.

Terms & Conditions

  •  Candidates can keep their previous jobs if they take leave during the Period of Fellowship
  •  Candidates may accept a part-time, honorary, or partially paid teaching assignment or research assignment with the consent of the Research Projects Committee.
  • Fellows’ research will be reviewed after one year. Candidates will need to present their findings before the expert committee. If the Fellow’s research is not up to the mark, the fellowship may be cancelled.

8. Post Doctoral Opportunities – IIT Madras

IIT Madras offers PhD graduates the opportunity to pursue a career as a teacher or researcher through postdoctoral positions. These opportunities are available in nearly all IIT Madras academic departments. As an attempt to reconnect women with research, the institute offers postdoctoral fellowships for PhD scholars who have taken a career break.

 9. IIT Delhi Postdoctoral fellowship

The Department of Design offers postdoctoral fellowships for deserving candidates. The deadline for applications is not set.  10. Nirma University Fellowship

Nirmal University offers a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program to support active researchers in frontier areas. The fellowship program is full-time, and a mentor supervises the fellows for at least one year. Nirma University’s research department may extend the fellowship tenure according to the candidates’ performance.

Eligibility

  • A PhD degree must be obtained from an Indian/Foreign university to qualify for the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, and the applicant must have published at least three publications in high-quality reputed Journals.
  • At the time of submission, the candidate should be below 40 years. Women candidates are eligible for an age relaxation of five years.

Admission Procedure

The University publishes an advertisement in newspapers, social media, and its website inviting applications for admission to doctoral and postdoctoral programs.
Candidates must apply according to the University’s requirements. They also need to submit copies of certificates, biodata, and lists of publications.

The duration of the program

The fellowship is only temporary. It will be granted for one year in the first instance and extendable for maximum 3 three years depending on progress and recommendations from the Research Progress Committee.

Salary for Postdoctoral Fellowship in India.

Post Doctoral Fellowship salary in India depends on programs and institutes. First, search for the fellowship you are interested in and then apply. There are many different applications for Post Doc fellowships. The average postdoctoral stipend in India is in the range of INR 35000 to 90000 a month, excluding House Rent Allowance.
