The Distance Education department of Kerala University is a pioneer in the field of correspondence education in the state. It was initiated as a Teaching and Research Department in 1976. The school was established to democratize education, where people in the remote areas can have equal access to education as much as those from the urban areas, its main target being women and working people. The school offers 25 Under Graduate and Post Graduate programs in the streams of science, arts, and commerce. Interested individuals may refer to the details given below.

Kerala University Distance Education Admission Procedure

  • This section covers the details about the steps in admission process in distance education.
  • Interested candidates should check the official website of the University for Updates regarding admission to the programs stated above.
  • Candidates seeking admission to any of the Under Graduate courses should have passed Higher Secondary Examination from a recognized institute.
  • Candidates seeking admission to any of the Post Graduate courses should have passed the Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institute in the same or relevant discipline.
  • Candidates must remit Rs 250/-( for the application form and prospectus) through a demand draft drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Also, it can be remitted by a pay-in-slip at the cash counters of the University office, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram, and also at the university campus, Kariavattom.
  • Candidates have to make a payment of Rs 250 for the application fee through DD or challan.
  • Candidates should visit the official website of the University after obtaining the fee receipt to fill up the online application form, after which the duly filled application should be sent to the address of the University along with the other required documents. This should be sent through registered post super scribed with ‘Application for admission to…’
  • Candidates seeking admission from foreign countries have to submit a DD of Rs 250/-. A service charge of Rs 10/- should be added as a service charge.
  • At the time of final submission, candidates should ensure that all the required documents are present as the absence of the same will lead to rejection of the application.
  • Prospectus can be availed from the Registrar on payment of Rs 250/-
  • Selection of candidates to various subjects and programs will be made on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination except for MBA.
  • Candidates seeking admission in the MBA program will have to sit for an entrance to be conducted by the University of Kerala

 Distance Education of Kerala University – Admission Process

Read the instructions very carefully before filling in the form.

  • STEP 1. Log onto the official website of the University.
  • STEP 2. Click on the ‘School of Distance Education’ link.
  • STEP 3. Click on the ‘Click here for Registration/Online admission’ link.
  • STEP 4. To proceed further with the admission procedure, log in using your application number and password.
  • STEP 5. Print a copy of the application form and send the application form along with the DD or Challan and the other required documents.
  • STEP 6. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category should also send a print-out copy of the E-grants online application form.

Re Admission Procedure
If a student discontinues the program that he/she has taken up in a semester, he/she can continue the same at the beginning of the corresponding semester in the following year. However, this facility applies only if the syllabus of the program remains the same. In case of any change in the program, he/she should cancel the prior registration and go through the admission procedure all over again.

Documents Required for Admission

This section covers the requirements of documents for admission. Along with the application form, candidates must submit the following documents failing of which will lead to the rejection of candidature.

  • Certificate and Mark sheets of the qualifying examination in original
  • In case the candidate is unable to produce the original certificate, a provisional certificate from the institute last attended is to be produced to be granted admission. However, the admission of the candidate, if selected, will be regularised only on the submission of the original certificate.
  • Original Transfer Certificate from the institution last attended is to be submitted along with the application form. If the candidate is unable to provide the said certificate, he/she may submit a certificate stating the absence of the original, duly signed by the authority of the institution last attended. This certificate is to be submitted along with the application form. If the previously attended institution does not issue Transfer Certificates to their outgoing students, such students will be granted admission in the School of Distance Education in any of the desired program if the students submit an affidavit duly signed by a Notary public/ Second Class Judicial Magistrate along with a statement from the last attended institution stating that they do not issue Transfer certificates. However, if a candidate seeking admission in the School of Distance Education is more than 60 years of age, he/she is exempted from submitting the transfer certificate.
  • If the candidate has passed the qualifying examination from anywhere outside Kerala, he/she should obtain an eligibility certificate from the Registrar, University of Kerala, which should be produced at the time of admission without fail.
  • To avail the eligibility certificate, candidates should download the prescribed form for the same from the official website of the University and submit to the Registrar along with an application. A payment of Rs. 2000/- should be made for candidates who are the avail the course from overseas, Rs. 350/- for candidates outside Kerala but within the Indian territory seeking admission in Post Graduate and Professional courses and Rs. 200/- for others.
  • The application to the Registrar should be submitted along with the certificates of all the examinations passed by the candidate, transfer certificate (attested by the School of Distance Education). The application should be in a self-addressed stamp envelop.
  • Candidates from HSE/VHSE/CBSE boards seeking admission to degree programs need not acquire an eligibility certificate. Instead, he/she has to make a payment of Rs. 200/-.
  • Candidate also should also submit an identity proof
  • Candidates who has passed qualifying examination from anywhere outside the University of Kerala must submit Migration certificate. The same is to be produced after the completion of the admission procedure without fail.
  • Two photocopies of the original degree certificate.(Front and back)
  • For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the completed E Grants form issued by Akshaya Kendra is to be submitted.
  • Candidates belonging to minority classes should submit caste certificate/ tribe
  • Certificate, etc,
  • income certificate and a photocopy of the adhaar card.
  • University Pay-in-slip/DD.
  • Authentic copy of SSLC.
  • Candidates who had cancelled a part of his/her examination has to submit a cancellation memo issued by the controller of examination.
  • DDF receipt.

DISTANCE ADMISSION DATES FOR THE YEAR 2020-2021:

Exam Admit Card/ Hall Ticket

Students appearing for the examinations conducted by the distance education board can download the admit card/hall ticket for undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma examinations from the website of the university. The hall ticket for the exam will be released only for the eligible students who have cleared their dues and examination fees. Students must carry the admit card along with the ID card on each day of the examinations. No students will be permitted to enter the examination hall without hall ticket. Students must check their exam dates, time of the exam, and center of examination on the hall ticket and appear for the examinations accordingly.

Candidates who have successfully submitted the application form should download the hall ticket from the official website of the University. They are advised to check the University website for notification regarding dates from time to time. The university will not be held responsible for any mistake made due to the negligence of the candidate.

Relaxation
For candidates belonging to SC/ST category, there will be a relaxation of 5% from the prescribed cut off.

  • For candidates belonging to SOBC category, there will be a relaxation of 2% from the prescribed cut-off.
  • For people with disabilities, there will be a relaxation of 5% from the prescribed cut- off.

Scholarship
Students with outstanding performance in their academic career will be given a scholarship. Those students who belong to minority groups can apply for scholarships. However, to avail of this scholarship, they must provide all the necessary documents.

Exam Updates: Kerala University Distance Education Exam Time Table for 2020.

Kerala University Distance Education Department has announced the examination for distance education examinations on 11/05/2020. According to the press release, all the distance education examination will begin on 28th May 2020. For more details, visit the official website of Kerala University Distance Education.

As per the press release, The students can choose the sub-centres according to their convenience, to solve the problem in commuting to examination centers.
